River Expeditions

Wind/Peel Semester

Students on the Wind/Peel River semester will voyage by tandem canoe from McCloskey Lake in the northern Yukon up the remote Wind and Peel Rivers to Fort McPherson. A team of Dechinta, Elder and local land-user instructors will share important knowledge about the Peel watershed, stopping at important cultural sites and learning in land-based classrooms like fish camps.

Itinerary

July 4: Participants meet in Whitehorse, Yukon
July 5-7: Dechinta orientation/Community gathering
July 8-11: Canoe whitewater training at Lapie River
July 11: Travel to Mayo, Yukon
July 12: BBQ in Mayo with Nacho Nayak Dun First Nation
July 13: Charter to McCloskey Lake
August 3: Arrive in Fort McPherson
August 4-6: Midway Lake Music Festival
August 7-9: Dechinta debrief/Community gathering
